Antonio Mesones was born in Torrelavega, Spain in 1965. He received his B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Pais Vasco, Bilbao, Spain. After his studies of Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country, obtained a series of scholarships that took him to Lisbon, Amsterdam and Berlin, where eighteen years ago, the intuition of the future of the city and his own decided to establish his residence and his study, and where he has undoubtedly found the tranquility and perspective suitable for the performance and evolution of his work. His method of work is leisurely and calm. Light, color, gesture, background/shape, depth and space also need time to be present and express themselves. Their attitude is of waiting, because each stage has its moment, its importance, its intensity and it is from there where the color, the light and the form are gradually establishing the communication between painter and painting to make possible a new creation. His obsession, the very fact of painting. On the wall several canvases await the moment when the hand of the painter and the brush establish the dialectic that all creation demands so that the canvas begins to manifest itself as a new skin with its own vibrations and sensations in a process of addition and superposition that allow you to appear before us as a new living being whose beauty and elegance somehow affect us. It is abstract painting? To respond we reproduce what Juan Botella says in a lucid text: It is necessary to paint it immediately poses the problem of what to paint. There is a possibility of painting what we call reality; but not fro whom the painting is the subject and the object. For him, it is painting that has to be painted. “He adds: Mesones paintings are realistic because they reflect the reality of painting, then that is what to paint.”
